Hey everyone!

ysabetwordsmith is holding a half-price sale this week, specifically for the Shiv series of stories and poems, in which a determined young supervillain is slowly learning that not every other person is terrible or out to get him, some of them are actually really nice, and there are cool ways to use his power over sharp things that don't involve stabbing someone.

Since Shiv poems are generally long, I don't have enough to sponsor one myself, but I'd be happy to pool with any of you who are also interested in reading more about him. The easiest to raise for would probably be "If You Don't Have Experience Sewing" at 69.50, or "Intelligence Having Fun" at $108, but if we do break $100 we can also get longer poems at quarter-price. I'm interested in most of them, so I'm willing to be swayed by what contributors most want to get.

fuzzyred and I already have one going. We are currently planning to sponsor "Intelligence Having Fun", "The Child Who Survived", and "Made Anew in a Heartbeat".

If you would like to contribute to this collection, you will automatically be eligible for the quarter-price rate no matter how much you add to the pool. We need at least $14 more to finish the ones we've signed up for, so if you threw that in, you could then suggest anything you liked and contributed to for the next target. If we can't get more coming in, it can be opened for microfunding and keep the quarter-price rate.

OK, great! Pick a target poem and a dollar amount, and let me know what you're signing up for. Settle up via PayPal to my financial representative (will PM you the address once you've signed up), and

ysabetwordsmith will get the contribution and post the results.

I was planning to spend $40-50, which currently works out to 30-37 in USD. That takes care of your hanging 14 and leaves 16-23, but I don't think there's another poem that would be finished at that point. The next logical one after the ones you've listed would be The Heart of Creativity, but even at quarter price there would still 34 USD left for that.

technoshaman just jumped in. We now have $37 available to fund another poem. The quarter-price leverage equates that to $74 of the half-price numbers. So adding your $30-37, and doubling again, means that we could add more poetry with half-price list price being $134-148.

So go ahead and pick something in that range that you'd like to add to the list. Knock $74 off its half-price list, and plan to contribute half the remainder. I will PM you soon with the PayPal handle to send it to.

I have not joined a pool before, but would like to kick in $20 toward whatever the next Shiv poem is. Please advise how?

If I've calculated correctly with Zianuray's $20, the next poem closest to our combined price range would be "Provisions for Parent Education" at 148.50, 74.25 quarter-price, and I can send 17.25 ($24 CAD) to finish that out. The description is "Since nobody is thrilled with the schools in Lincoln, they move on to Omaha, which offers much better options including a college prep school and a Montessori school. They also scout job and housing opportunities in case of a move." It seems likely to be more Finns than Shiv directly, but it's in his thread.

The next down is "Conducive to Thought" - Shiv begins knitting a brain to help him understand anatomy better. That would cost 69.75 - 12.75 over the current pool, $18 CAD for me.

The next up would be "All the Beautiful Lights" - Shiv and Luci enjoy a holiday cruise on Lake Manawa. That's $103 quarter-priced, which leaves $46 for me to cover - a little out of my stated price range at $64 CAD, but I could probably stretch for it.

Are any of those poems preferable/more interesting to the rest of you?

I am ok with either of the first two, or, alternatively, we could purchase both "It Marks You" (about Shiv helping a new gang mate) and "If You Don't Have Experience Sewing", which follows nicely from "Made Anew in a Heartbeat". And if I counted correctly, you wouldn't need to put in more than $30 for those two, though possibly less.

Sent a few minutes ago from "fifthhouse" with a note specifying DW name ZiaNuray. I have no preference as to which poems, I just want to read about Shiv. He's making such great progress overall!
